One of the questions we're asked most often is: "Do I need lube with Erotx?" The honest answer is that it's up to you. Our toys are made from an ultra-soft, medical-grade silicone that's designed to feel gentle on the body with or without lubricant. But there are times when lube makes everything better, and it's worth knowing when.
Why ultra-soft silicone changes the equation
Firm or rough materials can drag on skin, which is where friction and discomfort come from. Silicone with a smooth, velvety, ultra-soft finish moves more comfortably over skin. For many people, especially during external use with a wand, that's all they need.
When you might happily skip lube
- External massage and stimulation, such as with the Swerve Wand.
- Over-fabric play, where lube isn't practical anyway.
- When your body is naturally well lubricated and you're comfortable.
- When you want minimal cleanup or minimal ingredients.
When lube genuinely helps
- Internal use. A little water-based lube can make insertion of trainers like Bomb Cherry more comfortable, particularly at first.
- Longer sessions, when natural lubrication may fade.
- Any time you notice friction or discomfort. Discomfort is your cue to slow down and add lube, not to push through.
- For the feel of it. Plenty of people simply enjoy the extra glide.
Lubrication changes, and that's normal
Natural lubrication isn't a measure of desire or attraction. It's influenced by many things, including:
- Hormones: menstrual cycle shifts, pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause and menopause can all reduce natural lubrication.
- Medications: some antihistamines, antidepressants and hormonal contraceptives can contribute to dryness.
- Stress, fatigue and hydration.
- Simply not having had enough time to warm up.
If dryness is persistent or uncomfortable, it's worth mentioning to a healthcare provider, as there are effective options available. Lube is a tool, not a sign that anything is wrong.
Using lube isn't a fix for a problem. It's a way to make good feel even better.
If you do use lube with Erotx
Choose water-based. It's compatible with all silicone, safe with condoms, and rinses away easily. Use water-based lube only with Erotx toys, because silicone-based lube can damage silicone. Avoid oil-based lube with latex condoms. Our honest lube review compares every type.
A quick decision guide
| Situation | Our suggestion |
|---|---|
| External use, feeling comfortable | No lube needed. Enjoy the soft finish. |
| Internal use or Kegel training | A small amount of water-based lube |
| Long session | Keep water-based lube nearby to top up |
| Using condoms | Water-based or silicone-based; never oil with latex |
| Sensitive skin | Fragrance-free, simple water-based, or none |
After use
Whether you used lube or not, wash your toy with warm water and mild, unscented soap, dry it completely, and store it in its pouch. See our full cleaning guide.
